Chief Watertender Peter Tomich, 1941-

During the attack at Pearl Harbor, he remained at his Engineering Dept. station although he realized the ship was capsizing as a result of enemy bombing and torpedoing.  He ensured all boilers were secured properly and all fireroom personnel had been evacuated first, and by so doing gave his life.  Awarded the Medal of Honor.
